Building upon SOG's long tradition of working with and honoring Japanese knife makers, SOG partnered with Kiku Matsuda, one of the foremost tactical knife designers and blade grinders in Japan, to produce a line of knives. Together, Matsuda's decades of experience in blade grinding and making fixed blade knives and SOG's production experience has created one of the most unique, striking, and functional blades available. Through this collaboration, Matsuda and SOG have won awards and continue to drive innovative and functional knife designs. This folder features a quick SAT spring-assisted, high-end VG-10 stainless steel blade showcasing Matsuda's trademark and distinctive blade grinds. The handle is constructed using full length stainless steel liners with elegant linen Micarta slabs that are rugged, easy to clean, and look better the more it is used. The SOG Kiku Assisted blade performs just like any workhorse knife, but it does so with more balance, class, and comfort.
GREAT OVERALL KNIFE
“I bought this knife with apprehensions about the price, but as soon a I put it to the test, I realized it was worth more in its use than most other knives I own. The edge holds really well, which is important considering I cut everything from paper to vinyl on a daily basis. The linen micarta handle gives a really hard to explain feeling, but the closest I can get is: the most comfortable folder I’ve ever held. The knife just feels like it belongs in your hand. The deep ride pocket clip and safety locking features are all great add-ons that really round out this knife. ” - Customer Review, November 2017
A rugged daily carry
An artful handle
The Kiku Assisted is a sophisticated and stylish folder
SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.) works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As you initiate the opening action, the force propelling your blade open becomes greater than the force keeping it closed. The result is a blade that springs open instantly once it is engaged, seemingly on its own.
VG-10 is a well-known, high-end Japanese steel, and is considered premium. It contains vanadium, which is renowned for its toughness. The steel is specially designed for high-quality blades used in cutlery. VG-10 can be sharpened to a fine edge that is very durable and can maintain a hardness of Rc 60 without becoming brittle.
LINEN MICARTA HANDLE
Micarta is created from soaking layers of linen cloth in resin, then pressing them together. It offers superior grip in wet or dry conditions and develops an eye-catching patina the more it's used.
